Feminism, equality and logical fallacies

What are the odds of having the same discussion, but with different people on different social media networks? Seriously, I would love to know that! Because that is what I managed to do today.

Both parties used circular reasoning, no true Scotsman, acting as if you are either with them or against them and appealing to emotion.

They started out from different situations, but both made the similar claim that; feminists are for equality, therefor everyone who are for equality is a feminist, but if you don’t call yourself a feminist, you are against equality.

I’m sorry to burst the bubble of anyone who actually believes in this reasoning, but feminism doesn’t have monopoly on equality. You can still be for equality without having to label yourself a feminist.

Two broader and non-gender focused labels that comes to mind are humanist and egalitarian.

This goes for all interest groups. Nothing repels support better than hostility, self-entitlement, elitism and logical fallacies.

Of course, your cause might be important, but it might not be the only important cause that needs attention and support.

If someone who doesn’t support your cause supports another, at least be happy for that!
