The calm before the wordy storm

When you try to juggle a lot tasks it makes it difficult to anticipate what will happen the next (few) day(s). What is only possible to know is what needs to be done now. Other than that, it is a mixture of surprise and relief if you are able to take a break, and how enjoyable that is.

It has become extremely easy to spot when I am back in the trenches of academia. Daily musings becomes rare in this space. Instead it becomes very random and unpredictable — unwillingly so.

Not to mention, my journalistic work will also suffer— unwillingly —for the sake of academic deadlines.

This post serves more of a heads-up that it is now with greater certainty that I am unable, or have less time, to give this blog attention the next coming weeks. I have several academic essays I need to finish during that time — smashing out, the end sum, about 7,000 words. That is of course the end product, excluding drafts.

As usual I will get through it, and hopefully I can squeeze in the odd post here and there, for the sake of writing something different and to avoid making my [written] voice sound too academic and stale.

An attempt to refocus

When it comes to health we are told we are what we eat. But the same happens to writers, you are what you read.

While academia can provide a healthy new way on how to approach information, it can also have a somewhat boring effect on your writing.

Academic [per-reviewed] journals are important. They provide you with the latest and [hopefully] most accurate findings.

While academic essays and journals might show perfect use of grammar, but that’s about it.

As it is known in academia that some academics aren’t good writers.

They are often verbose, and some even use tautology.

It is now time to put aside the academic essays and start writing journalistic prose [again] to pump out some interesting columns.
