“Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”
– Confucius [thank you Nico for the correction]
This quote speaks volumes. It sums up everything about how to go about finding your passion in life, what to study at university and what career you should go for.
Finding what you know you will enjoy rest of your life is not only about knowing you will enjoy your career till you retire; it is also about finding the strength to fight for that career.
You can’t be afraid of making sacrifices. Nor can you be afraid of hard work.
Which is why I scoff at claims such as, “there is no work” or “it’s too difficult to find a job.” Claims like those should motivate you, not scare you away from your passion – as they usually are said by those who either failed or lacked the passion.
Let us assume it took you six months after you finished your degree to find the job you wanted – something you love and have a passion for. Let us then assume you’ve been doing this work for 40+ years – still your passion in life. Those six months– after 40+ years –should mean nothing to you.
40 years is 480 months.
Still afraid of wasting time following your passion in life?
I agree with this, in an ideal sense. If only the inner workings of society afforded the ability to do this to everybody. And maybe it does if you know how to shape your world’s opportunities to fit your personal ideal. It’s also important to reaccess and correct course, because what you desire will inevitably shift. Never stop learning. Never stop living. Never stop loving. And, read my books.
Thanks.
Wasn’t that Confucius? Wonderful post though, thank you for a brilliant read. :D
Oh my, you’re so right! Thanks heaps for the correction! :)
And thank you for enjoying it!
That is true tho, not everyone will be able to get that one true job they want. But as I’ve heard from academics, those who do get the job they want, or at least manage to make a living in their field, did it because they worked hard and wanted it.
Yes, our desire might shift and we should never stop acquiring knowledge, but to do so we can’t be afraid to fail and to sacrifice.
To fail is an opportunity to learn. To sacrifice is to invest in the future.
Cheers!
