I admit it, I’m a shameless fan of Hunter S. Thompson; the human, the writer, the author and the gonzo journalist. So shameless I also acquired a “doctorate” from ULC for the sake of doing what he did to understand his writing style better.

Sometimes you must go beyond the works of a writer to understand why and how he or she wrote in that way. Mimic their way of behaving to fully understand their writing process.

Just for fun I used ‘Odium & Trepidation’ in some of my older blog posts. Those of you who either have a good command of English or a thesaurus at hand, will understand it’s a hat-tip to the most famous title used by Hunter S. Thompson.

If you are not able to use a cultural reference without making it obvious it’s – don’t do it.

And please, it must also be relevant to what you have written – or else it will just look pathetic.
